Rebecca Synard

Piano

Toronto-based musician Rebecca Synard has been an active teacher, performer, and accompanist in the GTA since 2016. Her classical training includes a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto under the instruction of Brian McDonagh and an ARCT from the Royal Conservatory. She is pursuing a Master's in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Toronto.

Besides exploring a wide range of classical repertoire, Rebecca equips her students with practical skills such as reading lead sheets, learning different accompaniment styles, arranging, and improvising. Her goal as a teacher is to help her students become life-long independent learners.

Being involved in traditional and contemporary church music from a young age, Rebecca values collaborative music-making as an essential part of her teaching practice. She encourages her students to share their music with others, not just for personal development but as an act of community building.

Rebecca has a wide range of performance experience, working across different genres with singers, instrumentalists, and dancers. In addition to piano, she plays guitar, ukulele, electric bass, and flute. She has sung with choirs including Modern Sound Collective and the University of Toronto's Chamber Choir.
When she's not teaching, she can be found strumming a string instrument, singing to her plants, or befriending stray cats
