Frédéric Chopin

Chopin was a Polish composer and pianist of the Romantic era who wrote primarily for solo piano. He lived from 1810-1849. As a child prodigy, he took piano lessons in Warsaw and composed some of his earlier pieces before settling in Paris at age 21. He was friends with Franz Liszt and Robert Schumann, two great composers of Chopin's time. For such a great pianist, he only gave 30 public performances, and mainly taught piano and sold his compositions. He died at the age of 39 in Paris of complications with tuberculosis.

Start your piano journey

Don't have a keyboard but what to get those fingers moving? Silent keyboards are the way to go! You could even make this on a sheet of paper, or a cardboard box.

Along with his many solo piano works, Chopin also wrote music for flute, violin, cello and voice. What is your favourite piece by Chopin?
